Many people believe that using a bicycle as your main form of transport has a lot of advantages whereas others think that it has many disadvantages. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Many assert that riding a cycle daily could be beneficial, but it is being argued that it could prove to be non-beneficial at the same time. I remember the last time when I cycled with my friends on a ring road full, it was a memorable experience as you just need to pedal along with no worries of the heavy traffic. In my view, a bicycle has more plus points than the negative ones and it must be used over any other four-wheeler.
The prime advantage of bicycling daily to work could help an individual to keep up with his health. It helps a person to remain fit by burning out calories 30 percent faster than walking, which further helps to keep any bad cholesterol and fats out of the body. As a result, a person looking for weight loss can manage the calories effectively. For instance, the latest studies show that people who drive a four-wheeler to work are at 10 times more risk of a heart attack compared to those who cycled to the office. Thus, it helps to eliminate all bad nutrients, which in turn keeps the heart-healthy.
In addition, it also helps to reduce bottlenecks, road-rage, and traffic rules violations. As more and more people get on the lane with cycles, the vehicular chaos is reduced by leaps and bounds. A two-wheeler is slimmer, smaller in size, and lightweight, which makes it use less amount of space and eventually helps to avoid traffic jams, collision on course, and so on. To put this in perspective the UK government is planning to construct different lanes for bicyclists in their cities. This will not only keep them out of the way of heavy vehicles like trucks and lorries, but will also enable a separate space for smoother travel. Therefore, transition from driving an automobile to a cycle is the need of the hour.
On the other hand, using a cycle is bundled with a disadvantage too, and hence could prove to be fatal at times. There is a possibility that there are no separate lanes for four-wheelers and bicycles in an area which might lead to life-threatening accidents, plus, it would be much more dangerous for cyclists as it is a lighter mode of transport. For example, in Delhi, the two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers all run on the same main route connecting to all the major places in the city and a total of 3000 accidents were recorded in the year 2019 where more casualties were in the two-wheelers.
To conclude, it is evident that the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages and thus, using a bicycle is a must for every other person as it not only saves you time from miles long jams but also helps to manage your health better.
