In some countries, owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people, why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
It has been recently noted in certain countries that for their population, owning a home instead of renting one is very important. As far as my opinion is concerned, the most obvious reason for this would be, "Social taboo" and this situation is extremely negative as everyone might not be able to afford a home but might feel obligated to buy one.
This situation is likely to be the cause of societal expectations; in the countries where this predicament exists, owning a home must be a sign of respect while renting one might be frowned upon. For instance, if two brothers live separately and one of them owns a home while the other rents one, the society is likely to have higher respect for the former than latter. Therefore, such situation can arise in the countries where this kind of social expectation mold the mindset of people.
This predicament is certainly negative as owning a home is not cheap; in most countries property is expensive which is the reason why renting homes gain popularity in the first place. This situation can be negative as people that can not afford a home might end up in a bad mental and emotional place due to an immature social non-acceptance. To illustrate, a person that can only afford to rent a home might end up being laughed and frowned upon, making him depressed. Thus, this situation is very negative and baseless.
To recapitulate, the major cause of owning a home, even if out of one's financial discomfort, is societal pressure which is a very negative situation. People that have made up such societal expectations should consider the negative effects of it on people that can't fulfil these expectations.
