IELTS Writing Task 2 (Essay Writing)

Some people believe that people have the right to University Education, and government should make it free no matter what their financial background. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is a hot debatable topic amongst a citizens that the government should make the University Education free for everyone irrespective of their economic background. As far as my opinion is concerned, I completely disagree with this thought because providing studies at no cost will not only have a tremendous financial pressure on government, but would also push those students too who are not interested in getting educated.

The primary reason behind by standpoint is that having free higher secondary education for teenagers would definitely put a huge financial burden on the government. This is because such establishments would have no source of income from the fees and consequently, they would rely on official authority for funding. In order to cater to these, the authorities may have to cut their grants which were previously allocated to other important domains such as healthcare, tourism and transportation, as a result, multiple facets may suffer by over-funding a single one. Therefore, it will not be a viable option for government to sponsor free education to youngsters.

Another argument for my disagreement is that offering free of charge studies to all youth would attract many to enter universities irrespective of their interest. When the students are not interested in studying, they do not produce good results which in turn do not attract good placement oppotunities, resulting in higher levels of unemployment. To put this into perspective, when a young boy does not have to pay any tuition fees, he would not take his classes seriously and will show lack in commitment which would result in getting low scores in his exams and no companies would like to come to that institution to hire such candidates. Thus, to have a good quality of students, free education should not be encouraged.

To conclude, everyone has the right to access higher education, however, abolishing fee is not practical for many countries as this will not only have a negative effect on the authorities, but will also prove to be detrimental for the students as well.
